These are the rules for determining the answers to the right-hand side of the homesite scorecard.

Scorecard questions Applicable rules
Note: Mark all homesite practices (51-64) NO if the landform is a flood plain or a filled depression.

Necessary to maintain soil cover during construction (answer 51 is YES) if:
Soil has slope greater than 2%

Need to improve surface drainage (answer 52 is YES) if:
  1. Poorly or somewhat poorly drained AND
  2. 0-2% slope

Need to improve surface soil (answer 53 is YES) if:
  1. Brownish or gray surface color AND
  2. Sandy, moderately clayey, or clayey surface texture

Need to locate home to fit soil restrictions (answer 54 is YES) if:
  1. Slope more than 6% OR
  2. Bedrock <40 inches deep

Need to provide foundation drainage (answer 55 is YES) if:
  1. Soil drainage is poor, somewhat poorOR
  2. Soil drainage is moderately well

Need to accommodate high-clay subsoils (answer 56 is YES) if:
  1. Subsoil texture is clayey

Need to install diversion structures and drains (answer 57 is YES) if:
  1. More than 2% slope AND
  2. Either:
    1. Bedrock, dense till, or fragipan above 40 inches OR
    2. Moderately clayey or clayey subsoil texture
Note: Mark all onsite wastewater disposal practices (58-64) NO if slope is more than 12%.

Need to use trench system, ordinary size (answer 58 is YES) if:
  1. No limiting layer within 40 inches of the soil surface AND
  2. Well drained AND
  3. Subsoil texture is sandy, moderately sandy, or medium

Need to use trench system, large size (answer 59 is YES) if:
  1. No limiting layer within 40 inches of the soil surface AND
  2. Well drained AND
  3. Subsoil texture is is moderately clayey or clayey

Need to use At-grade system (answer 60 is YES) if:
  1. No limiting layer within 20 inches of the soil surface AND
  2. Well drained or moderately well-drained AND
  3. Slope is 6% or less

Need to use mound system (answer 61 is YES) if:
  1. Soil has slope of 6% or less

Need to use drip distribution system (answer 62 is YES) if:
  1. No bedrock limiting layer within 20 inches AND
  2. Well or moderately well drained

Need to use sand filter (answer 63 is YES) if:
  1. If at least 1 soil absorption field practice (58-62) is marked YES

Need to use constructed wetland (answer 64 is YES) if:
  1. At least 1 soil absorption field practices (58-62) is marked YES AND
  2. Slope is 12% or less AND
  3. Bedrock is deeper than 20 inches AND
  4. Soil is moderately well or well drained
