Dodder
Dodder is an annual weed which reproduces by seed.  It is a parasitic plant found mostly in the southern part of Indiana.  Dodder does not contain any chlorophyll in its leaves and thus does not have the ability to photosynthesize.
Upon emerging from the soil, a Dodder seedling must find a host plant very soon or die.  It initially wraps itself around the host plant or its rhizomes and feeds off the material flowing in the vascular bundles of the host.  The white flowers of Dodder are very small and are borne in clusters on the ends of the stems.
Dodder seeds are round with roughened seed coats.  These rough seed coats catch on rolls of velvet to allow separation from alfalfa and clover.
