Common lambsquarters
Common lambsquarters grow throughout Indiana and much of the southern portion of the north central region of the United States.  It is an annual plant that reproduces only by seed.  The leaves are commonly light green and covered with a mealy, white substance that appears as if someone has sprinkled powdered sugar on the plant.
The leaves are irregularly lobed and basically triangular in shape.  On fertile soil, this plant may grow to as tall as 7 or 8 feet.
The inflorescence on common lambsquarters is green in color and contains large quantities of seed.
These seeds are born on the tips of the stem throughout the entire plant and are commonly found with their outer hulls still attached.  With the hulls attached, these seeds are brownish-tan and shaped like 5-pointed stars.
