Some facets of Indiana’s Weather and Climate
Is Indiana’s climate changing? How is the next season going to be across Indiana? Where can we crop consultants get weather and climate data for Indiana? What are some of the factors affecting Indiana’s weather and climate? What is the impact of climate change on crop productivity? What is the status of drought monitoring and what is being done to develop better tools? What is the potential impact of increasing urban areas and changes in the crop patterns across Indiana? What is CoCoRaHS and what is its impact on Indiana’s weather and climate monitoring? These and related questions will be discussed in this presentation along with an overview of the Indiana State Climate Office (Iclimate) services and resources for climate and weather data users. The presentation will also be an opportunity to discuss specialized products the Indiana CCA members would like the Iclimate to develop for their applications.
Dev Niyogi Dr. Dev Niyogi is the State Climatologist for Indiana and an Assistant Professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Agronomy and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Purdue University. His research focus is on assessing and representing the effect of vegetation on the regional scale weather and climate features as an important component of the environmental forecasting and regional climate change assessment studies. Dr. Niyogi’s research improves the understanding of the effect of environmental changes on the plant and land surface response and the representation of the land surface – atmosphere interactions in models for understanding the nonlinear feedback plant and land surface changes on regional scale weather and climate processes.
