Downloading and Installing the Soil Science Software

Why download the Soil Science software?

"Downloading" means copying files to your personal computer from an on-line service, rather than from a floppy disk or CD-ROM. Once you have downloaded and installed the Soil Science software on your computer, you will be able to run the following programs:

SelfTest
Texture
ProbSet
FertCost
LandSurv
SoilLoss

When you are ready to download the Soil Science Software

Click here to download file soilsoft.exe.

The Soil Science software is distributed as a self-extracting file named SOILSOFT.EXE. When you click on the above link, your browser will prompt you with a Save As dialog box. In the Save as box, select the folder where SOILSOFT.EXE should be saved. For example, you might save the file to your computer's Temp folder.

Once you have selected a folder, click the Save button and downloading will begin.

Installing the Soil Science software after downloading

Once you have successfully downloaded the SOILSOFT.EXE, you are ready to install the software, as follows:

Click the Start button and click Run.
Type C:\temp\soilsoft.exe and click OK. This runs the setup program, which installs the software

Note: If you downloaded SOILSOFT.EXE to a different folder, substitute your folder for C:\temp.

Tip: After you have successfully installed the software, you can delete SOILSOFT.EXE from your hard disk.
